New Life to Children Project, Haiti Safe House, and Conference Call

I got the pleasure of sitting in on this weekend's conference call with New Life to the Children and Imagine This! TV. It was great listening to the concepts behind this project proposal and how their organization works with the community in Haiti to ensure the people are supported in maintaining sustainable solutions to everyday issues.

New life to the Children is developing a project in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, home to almost 3 million individuals. Within this city there is a population of orphans that live in danger of exposure to the elements, malnutrition and starvation, and being sold into slavery. This area is very poor in general and currently lacks the resources to address all of these children’s needs themselves. New Life to the Children is proposing an episode where Imagine This! TV builds a safe house for several of the children to have a safe place to live that would be a “real home” with a family to take care of them and a bed for each child to sleep in.

This week's conference call talking with New Life to the Children was a hit! Those on the call included Eion Bailey, creator of IT, Sander Koyfman, Projects Producer, Amy Wolff, Project Coordinator, and Dan Morrison, CEO of One Well and Don Skow of New Life to Children. This doesn't include those of us who were allowed to call in and listen to the conversation. The conference call was especially helpful in allowing me the opportunity to see each piece of the project and how it saw other avenues of sustainability in the area such as through the use of sun ovens.

Listening to Imagine This! TV Producers, it was great to get a feel for what each individual brought to the table. From the creative to the environmentally friendly to accessibility for individuals with disabilities, there is a wealth of passions and knowledge in the show. Amy Wolff, Project Coordinator, acted as moderator for the entire conference call and did a great job helping all of us on the listening side know who was talking and how they were connected. The second component of the converence call was the chat piece with tweets and facebook posts to follow. Being able to chat with other listeners and with Imagine This! staff Amy Wolff, Project Coordinator, and Sander, Projects Producer; allowed all of us to feel like a part of the discussion. Many stayed online for up to an hour after the call ended to continue the dialogue contributing to the evidence that we really are all a part of IT!

These conference calls will continue and I have no doubt with them, we will learn more about more about the best ways to plan life-changing, community-building projects to help those in need not only with IT but also on our own. I can't wait till the next one.
