Girl's Schools and Dorms in Egypt

Egypt – just the word brings forth iconic images of one of the world’s great civilizations.

Yet today, the building blocks for a stable future are out of reach for many children, particularly girls. The barriers that girls face in getting an education are too great to overcome on their own.

Imagine little girls walking 12 miles or more each day to school, all the while fearing for their safety. Girls shut out of classrooms because they are not allowed to sit with boys. Parents who are so mistrustful of male teachers that they’d rather keep their girls at home.

CARE encourages Imagine This to help design a dormitory that gives girls safe and easy access to school. The dormitory would also house female teachers, providing parents the peace of mind that their daughters are well cared for.

Education – like Egypt’s monuments – should endure. Let’s commit to educating all children, and creating a legacy we can all be proud of.

I am curious if this project would be possible but with the girls being able to still stay at home with their families but still have access to education? I wonder if there are other options to creating access to education while preserving the homelife experience of the girls.
