SO, where, how big, how much? Here is one way to look at it - to build this in one week there are three things that could be done:

1. Repurpose an existing facility - this can be anywhere.
2. Build a "light" building - region should be with very mild temperatures.
3. Expand an existing facility.

Think in terms of laying down the structure that could be expanded later by the local organizations. What would be a bare minimum size - taking care of 5, 10, 20 kids? What staffing/size of the facility required?

I think repurposing/expanding an existing facility is good. It'll be more manageable to fit in a one week time frame and there are buildings around that people want to sell or lease out. The problem is spending the time for looking for a building, negotiating, and making sure that the water and electricity is sufficient for the work LWB will do.

Does surgery happen onsite? If not, then renting an apartment in a "middle income" area works well. Those communities are usually gated and have a small park.

12 kids and 6 staff during shifts worked well where I was at before. How are the other homes doing with the number of children and staff they have?
Hi Sander,

We have build two of these so far. One in Anhui and one in Henan. We have taken an apartment and converted it to fit our needs. Apartments in China come wide open, the person who rents it renovates it how they want. This has worked great so far. We have our budgets and blueprints from these other homes. Our home in Anhui holds 15 children, in Henan 10. We would definitely want to find a place that would hold a minimum of 10 children. We also have the staffing requirements for the home too.

Our goal is to have a cleft home in every province. The next province that we would love to have a home is in the Fujian province.

What do you think and what can we give you to help with the planning!

Thank you so much!
Karen
